UPDATED SCHEDULE

We have updated our 2013 Schedule to January 2014.  We will spend most of our time between TT Peace River and TT Orlando.  Check it out in the right hand column!!

FRIENDS AT TT ORLANDO, FLORIDA

Sat, Oct 5 - We arrived at TT Orlando on Saturday about 1 PM.  We were riding around, looking for our site when Ken said, "I think we just passed Barb and Mitch's rig!"  I glanced up and there they were, waving at us -- Barb and Mitch, Pat and John!!!  Friends for years!!  This is amazing!!!

Now we have been playing around together!!  Pickleball, water aerobics, and of course, Happy Hour!!

BRIEF STAY AT ROD LAKE GASTON RESORT, VA

Wed, Oct 2 - We left Richmond this morning and went to ROD Lake Gaston Resort on the Virginia-North Carolina State Line.  I wanted to be near my kids who live in North Carolina so we could visit with them over the weekend.

This is a beautiful resort on the shores of Lake Gaston.  View from the marina.

The resort has unbelievable amenities!!  They have a large indoor recreation building with pool, shuffleboard, game machines, handball and even a bowling alley.  They have outdoor tennis courts that could be marked for Pickleball but they are not in very good shape.

Also on the premises is a clubhouse, including a restaurant.  When we checked in, Cindy told us that the restaurant served prime rib on Wednesday and Friday evening!  Since it was my birthday, we decided to try the prime rib.  It was amazing!!!

Queen Cut Prime Rib with Sweet Potato and Texas Toast!

Here we are enjoying dinner with new friends Mike, Ann, and their son Michael.

Unfortunately, our stay at Lake Gaston was cut short due to impending Tropical Storm Karen predicted to head north up I-95 when we were planning to head south.  A friend in Orlando recommended that we leave early and get to Florida before the storm hit.  So we made the very difficult decision to cancel our plans for the weekend and headed south early Friday morning.

RIDE AROUND RICHMOND DURING OUR WEEK OUT!

Sept - One day during our week out of TT Chesapeake Bay, we took a ride around Richmond just for the heck of it.

This is the historic Tredegar Iron Works, dates back to the Civil War.

Some of our cobblestone streets.

One of the locks on the Kanawha Canal off the James River.

The James River.

This is the old Benedictine High School.  Ken graduated from this Catholic military high school years ago.  We were surprised to learn that the school has moved from this location to a new site west of the city.

Sightseeing done, we looked for a place for lunch.  We had discovered a Pho Vietnamese restaurant when we were in LaQuinta, CA (near Palm Springs) and always enjoyed their soups and other dishes.  I had noticed on line that there was a Pho Vietnamese restaurant in our neighborhood, and our GPS was able to find it -- Pho So 1!!

Eye of Round Soup (Pho Tai).  UUMMMM!!  As good as the Pho in LaQuinta!!

Great place!!

FAYE'S BIRTHDAY WITH MIKE AND DIANE

Tue, Oct 1 - My uuummm birthday is actually on October 2, but we had decided suddenly to leave town and start our trip down south, leaving on Tuesday morning, October 2.  Sooo, Ken's son Mike and Diane invited us to dinner to celebrate my big day on the 1st.  They told me to choose any place I wanted.  I thought about Texas Steakhouse that we enjoy so much, but there are Steakhouses all over the country.  One place both Ken and I enjoy when we are in Richmond is Joy Garden Chinese Restaurant, a landmark restaurant in Richmond.  We especially liked their Chicken Chow Mein.  We have ordered Chicken Chow Mein in many different restaurants but none is like that served at Joy Garden.

Thank you Mike and Diane for my birthday Chicken Chow Mein!!!

CRACKING CRABS ON THE RIVER WITH FAYE'S FAMILY!!

Sat, Sept 28 - We have not seen my family in three plus years while we were traveling out west.  My niece Debbie invited all of us to get together at their place on Lancaster Creek just off the Rappahannock River for some crab cracking and hamburgers and some family fun!!

Virginia Blue Crabs!

UUMMMM!  Great fun!!  Great crabs!!

Part of my family.  Brother Chip, Nephew-in-law Jeff  HA HA (married to Debbie), Sisters Beryle and Jean, Husband Ken, Chip's wife Biddie!  Having a great time!!

Later Jeff serenaded us with an original composition.  Something about a being married to a mean old woman who wouldn't crack crabs for him!  Funny!!

Later we enjoyed hamburgers with all the trimmings and, of course, desserts galore!!

A little bit of background:  Years and years ago when we were all much younger, our Aunt and Uncle owned a home on Lancaster Creek.  The family spent many unforgettable weekends enjoying there place at the River.  When our Uncle died, my Aunt sold their place.  Some years later, Niece Debbie and Jeff purchased their current home on Lancaster Creek just a few houses down the road.  Thus they have given us a chance to enjoy many, many memories again.

I had to show  you a picture of Lancaster Creek, where we spent so many hours swimming, water skiing, fishing and sailing our little Sunfish boat, and just sitting and enjoying the view.

Thank you so much Debbie and Jeff for everything!!!

DINNER WITH TENNIS, BOATING, FISHING FRIENDS!!

Sept. 27 - We have known Bill and Linda for years and years.  We had so many of the same interests!  Met then at the tennis courts when we all used to play.  We spent many a pleasant hour fishing and boating on the Chesapeake Bay.  Bill was an expert fisherman and we learned a lot from him about fishing the Bay.

We are so glad we had a chance to go to dinner with them at The Portico in Richmond and reminisce about old times gone by.  The reunion was so much fun!!  The restaurant was quite unique and the food delicious!!  We decided it was getting too cool to enjoy dining on the patio and opted to stay inside.

Here we are enjoying each other's company:  Ken, Bill, Linda and Faye

Baked Spaghetti.

GETTING TOGETHER WITH SOME CHILDHOOD FRIENDS

Sept 29 - On Sunday afternoon, while Ken was watching the Redskins and the NASCAR Races, I decided to use that time to drive across town to visit with my very good friend, Betty.  We sat together and talked and remembered and laughed a lot.!

Shortly, Betty's neighbors RG and Carol came to join us.  I am glad that Betty had told them I would be there, because -

Betty, RG and I all went to school together umm years ago!  In fact, we grew up together in the same neighborhood so have known each other forever  Carol did not grow up with us - she came along later but that's OK !!!  She married RG!   It was so good to see them all again!  It's been over three years since I saw them at our last Class Reunion!

That was a most enjoyable afternoon.  Thanks, Guys!
